Young Talent: Federico Cina

One day, my friend and I came across a showcase of the designs of a fashion design student at Polimoda: Federico Cina.

We fell in love with his designs, and wanted to work with his clothes to style a photoshoot. That same day we went to the secretary at school and inquired about the designs. After getting his name, we contacted him immediately. At the time, he was completing a semester at Bunka in Japan, however upon his return to Italy, we met with the designer and discussed a collaboration.

Federico Cina is from Cesena and was born and raised there. Ever since he was a child, he has had an obsession with visuals and aesthetics, hence why he pursued a career in fashion design.

Throughout his studies, he has discovered that fashion really is his true calling in life: he wakes up in the morning thinking about what he can design and create something new.

He enjoys using fashion as his medium to express himself and also dressing others, he finds it very gratifying.

His collections usually draw inspiration from his life, feeling the need to transmit what is inside himself. This passion was triggered by the desire to always be up to every situation, as a child many times he did not feel the height of the children around me, he was trying to figure out what they had, that he didn’t.

Of course the external image is the first thing we notice, so he has always studied people, trying to understand their strengths and weaknesses and how they  hide their insecurities.

The collection pieces we photographed were from his collection: “Come Una Vita Viene al Mondo”. This collection tackles the hardships of growing up in a typical Italian family as a gay boy.

“This collection also becomes the bearer of a social message. It seems absurd that someone can decide what is right or wrong for other people, since this is the name of the collection”.

Below are photos from the photoshoot titled “Father Figure” we did with him in March.
